|Short Description:||UALG has been part of many transnational partnerships and projects within and outside of the EU. It carries out teaching and research in various scientific, social and humanities domains. Marine Biology and Fisheries was one of the first domains to be developed since its inception. UALG is now a reference for Marine Sciences in Portugal with its Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR), an Associated Laboratory and an active international player. CCMAR is part of European networks of excellence (Marine Genomics Europe, MARBEF), association of marine stations (MARS) and a leading partner in European infrastructure consortia (Assemble, EMBRC). With 200 staff (80 scientists), 2 key research areas are integrated : Living Marine Resources and Ecology, and Aquaculture and Biotechnology. Infrastructure is available to perform studies on fisheries, aquaculture, molecular biology and behaviour. A research station, Ramalhete, provides a tool for biological trials with aquatic organisms.|
UALG is a full partner in the project, participating in the management board, awarding the joint Doctoral degree, teaching advanced courses, hosting and supervising students at CCMAR for the duration of PhD studies and any other responsibilities determined by the management board (e.g. quality assurance). UALG will organize and provide training in Genomics, Physiology of Marine organisms and possibly others related to several of the focus of the doctoral school, as well as Portuguese language course. It will offer and supervise thesis projects in the areas in which is scientifically stronger. It will setup employment contracts with those students which register with UALG for their degree.
